What E7 Means
The shorted counterpart of E6. Wolf's Induction Cooktop Technical & Service Manual defines E7 as a shorted ambient thermistor, and unlike the open version it does not wait: once the converted value passes the error limit the cooktop enters lock mode. A short reads as an implausible temperature, so the control stops rather than work from it.
Common Causes of E7
- A shorted ambient thermistor
- A wiring short in the thermistor circuit beneath the glass
- A control board problem in the circuit that reads the ambient thermistor
🔧 One Safe Check You Can Try
Cycle the breaker once and see whether the lock mode clears. If it returns immediately, leave it - the cooktop has locked itself out deliberately and there is nothing on the surface that will change that.
⚠ Why You Shouldn't Go Further Than That
- The cooktop enters lock mode on purpose when it cannot trust this reading, so there is no way to work around it from the controls.
- Everything involved sits beneath a bonded glass surface above the induction generators.
- A shorted sensor reads as impossibly cool, which would remove the cooktop's warning of its own compartment overheating - not something to bypass.
Opening a panel to inspect or repair something yourself doesn't automatically cancel your manufacturer's warranty — but it can risk accidental damage, and some manufacturers do have specific service conditions. Check your product's warranty terms, or ask us, before deciding.
