Salt air doesn’t need direct ocean exposure to cause corrosion — homes within a few miles of the coast see accelerated wear on any exposed metal contacts, including the igniter connections, gas valve fittings, and control-board contacts inside a range or cooktop. It’s a gradual process, which is part of why it’s easy to miss until a connection finally fails.
There’s no way to fully prevent it in a coastal home, but keeping kitchen ventilation running during and after cooking (which also pulls in some outside air) and having connections checked periodically as part of routine maintenance both help catch corrosion-related problems before they cause a full failure.
