What E22 Means

The open-circuit counterpart of E20 and E21. Wolf's Induction Cooktop Technical & Service Manual defines E22 as a sensor open on a generator 1 burner and E23 as the same on generator 2, with the affected burner shutting down in both cases. Electrically this is identical to the sensor being disconnected.

Common Causes of E22

  • A burner temperature sensor that has gone open circuit
  • A broken or disconnected sensor lead under the glass
  • A generator board problem in the sensing circuit

🔧 One Safe Check You Can Try

Record which zone is affected and whether it fails the moment you select it or only after it has been running. Both patterns are useful, and neither requires touching anything.

⚠ Why You Shouldn't Go Further Than That

  • Everything involved is beneath a bonded glass surface that has to come out of the counter to be reached.
  • Without a working surface temperature sensor the control cannot protect the glass from overheating, which is why it disables the zone rather than carrying on.
  • A cracked or chipped glass top from a rushed removal costs considerably more than the sensor problem that started it.

Opening a panel to inspect or repair something yourself doesn't automatically cancel your manufacturer's warranty — but it can risk accidental damage, and some manufacturers do have specific service conditions. Check your product's warranty terms, or ask us, before deciding.

It can - an intermittent open in a sensor lead often behaves exactly like that as things warm and expand. Mention it, because intermittent problems are diagnosed differently.

Because that sensor is the zone's overheat protection. Running the coil without it would mean heating the glass with nothing watching the temperature.
