What E40 Means

A second group of shorted-sensor codes, covering different burners on each of the three generators. Wolf's Induction Cooktop Technical & Service Manual lists E40 for generator 1, E41 for generator 2 and E42 for generator 3, all with the affected burner shutting down and the generator board as the named repair.

Common Causes of E40

  • A shorted surface temperature sensor on the affected burner
  • Sensor wiring shorted under the glass
  • A generator board problem in that burner's sensing circuit

🔧 One Safe Check You Can Try

Map the failure: which zone or zones are out, and whether the problem follows the zone or follows the pan. Moving the same pan to a working zone is a free test that rules cookware in or out.

⚠ Why You Shouldn't Go Further Than That

  • Everything here lives beneath the glass at high current, which is not a place to be with a screwdriver.
  • Three generator boards means three different parts, and ordering by guesswork gets it wrong two times in three.
  • Removing an induction cooktop from a stone counter without the right method is how expensive glass gets broken.

Opening a panel to inspect or repair something yourself doesn't automatically cancel your manufacturer's warranty — but it can risk accidental damage, and some manufacturers do have specific service conditions. Check your product's warranty terms, or ask us, before deciding.
