Wolf Range

Wolf R488

Model # R488

The R488 is a 48-inch all-gas Wolf range carrying eight open burners. Both halves of it burn gas: sealed surface burners lit by a spark module and electrodes on top, and a thermostatically controlled gas oven burner underneath, which is the single biggest difference between this range and a Dual Fuel model of the same width.

Oven-side complaints on the R488 tend to be about temperature rather than outright failure: a gas oven that bakes low or high is often a thermostat calibration issue, while a cavity that never lights points at the safety valve or the oven burner itself.

Broken into its pieces, the number gives R for the original professional gas range line, 48 for the cabinet width in inches and 8 for the eight open burners. That convention has barely changed since: Wolf still spells the same charbroiler, griddle and French top options the same way on its current ranges and rangetops.

FAQ

Wolf R488 FAQ

Continuous sparking after ignition is one of the best-documented faults on this range generation. It usually comes down to the micro-switch at that burner valve, a burner base rotated slightly out of position, or a damaged electrode wire — all serviceable without replacing the burner.

Before anything else, if you can safely reach the supply valve, shut the gas off, leave the burners and any electrical switches alone, ventilate the room and call us. A gas smell is a safety call, not a routine service booking.
