What Ignition Lockout Means

Not a display code but a deliberate behavior you will notice. Wolf's Dual Fuel Ranges Use & Care Manual describes the ignition system retrying ignition up to three times, and after the third failure shutting down for a period to let non-combusted gas dissipate before trying again. The pause is the safety system working, not the range giving up on you.

Common Causes of Ignition Lockout

  • A worn or fouled igniter no longer producing a reliable spark
  • Burner ports blocked by food debris or a burner cap sitting out of position
  • A gas supply problem - a partly closed valve, or air in the line after work on the supply

🔧 One Safe Check You Can Try

Turn the burner or oven control off and turn off the gas supply valve to the appliance before doing anything else, then ventilate the room. Only once the gas is off is it reasonable to look at whether the burner cap is seated squarely and the ports are clear.

⚠ Why You Shouldn't Go Further Than That

  • Gas off first, always: repeatedly forcing a burner that will not light is how unburnt gas accumulates, and the lockout exists specifically to prevent that.
  • Igniters and gas valves are both electrical and gas parts in one assembly, which is not a reasonable combination for home repair.
  • A burner that lights on the third try today usually fails completely soon after, and a gas appliance is the wrong place to wait and see.

Opening a panel to inspect or repair something yourself doesn't automatically cancel your manufacturer's warranty — but it can risk accidental damage, and some manufacturers do have specific service conditions. Check your product's warranty terms, or ask us, before deciding.

Ignition Lockout FAQ

Deliberately, to let any unburnt gas disperse. Wolf's Use & Care Manual describes it as a short shutdown after the third failed attempt, which is the system doing its job.

Turn off the gas supply valve if you can reach it safely, avoid switches and flames, ventilate the room, leave the area and call for service from outside. That takes priority over any error code.
