What COMM ERR Means
This code means two of the oven's control boards (typically the main control board and a display or secondary board) have lost communication with each other — the boards can't confirm they're talking to one another correctly, whether or not either board has an independent problem of its own.
Common Causes of COMM ERR
- A loose or corroded connector between two control boards
- A wiring harness problem along the communication line
- A problem on one of the two boards itself, reported as a communication error
🔧 One Safe Check You Can Try
Power-cycle the oven fully at the breaker for about a minute. A communication error caused by a loose connector sometimes clears after a full power-down; one that returns points to a wiring or board-level problem.
⚠ Why You Shouldn't Go Further Than That
- Confirming which of the two boards (or the wiring between them) is actually to blame requires testing equipment most homeowners don't have.
- Reseating connectors on live control boards is a shock risk and can also damage the connector if done incorrectly.
- Replacing the wrong board because the problem looked like a communication issue is a common, avoidable expense.
Opening a panel to inspect or repair something yourself doesn't automatically cancel your manufacturer's warranty — but it can risk accidental damage, and some manufacturers do have specific service conditions. Check your product's warranty terms, or ask us, before deciding.
