What 0821 Means
MDL is the motorised door lock. Wolf's M Series Troubleshooting Manual lists 0821 as the upper cavity's MDL relay reading shorted and 0822 as the lower - the relay that drives the latch motor is sensed closed while the control has it commanded open, so the oven cannot be sure it has stopped driving the lock.
Common Causes of 0821
- MDL relay contacts welded closed on the relay board
- A feedback problem on the lock drive channel
- A wiring short in the door lock harness keeping the sensed circuit made
🔧 One Safe Check You Can Try
Let the cavity cool fully before going near the door, then note which position the latch has ended up in. Do not pull on a door whose latch may still be under drive.
⚠ Why You Shouldn't Go Further Than That
- Let it cool first: lock problems cluster around self-clean, and that means a cavity that stays dangerous well after the cycle ends.
- A latch motor that is being driven continuously will overheat, so the sensible immediate step is power off at the breaker rather than repeated attempts at the panel.
- Forcing a latched door because the relay is stuck bends the strike and adds a mechanical repair to an electrical one.
Opening a panel to inspect or repair something yourself doesn't automatically cancel your manufacturer's warranty — but it can risk accidental damage, and some manufacturers do have specific service conditions. Check your product's warranty terms, or ask us, before deciding.
