What 5431 Means
During a clean cycle the control expects the cavity to gain temperature at a certain pace. Wolf's M Series Troubleshooting Manual logs 5431 for the upper cavity and 5432 for the lower, at priority 3, when it climbs too slowly. Either heat is leaking out or one of the heat sources is not pulling its weight.
Common Causes of 5431
- A door gasket that has hardened, torn or come out of its channel
- Cavity insulation that has settled or been disturbed behind the liner
- One element or its relay not contributing, so the cavity heats on less power than expected
🔧 One Safe Check You Can Try
Run your fingers along the door gasket, oven cold, feeling for flattened, hardened or torn sections and any gap where it has pulled away from its channel. Then close the door on a sheet of paper at several points and see whether it grips evenly all the way round.
⚠ Why You Shouldn't Go Further Than That
- Gasket checks belong on a stone-cold oven - this code comes out of the cycle that takes the cavity to its highest temperature of all.
- Gaskets are shaped to the door and a badly seated replacement seals worse than the tired original, which repeats the problem.
- Chasing a non-contributing element means diagnostic mode and live measurement rather than anything visible from the cavity.
Opening a panel to inspect or repair something yourself doesn't automatically cancel your manufacturer's warranty — but it can risk accidental damage, and some manufacturers do have specific service conditions. Check your product's warranty terms, or ask us, before deciding.
