What 5220 Means
Not the cavity but the electronics compartment. Wolf's M Series Troubleshooting Manual logs 5220 at priority 2 when the thermistor on the relay board reads the air around the board as hotter than it should ever be. The board is telling you its own environment is overheating.
Common Causes of 5220
- A cooling fan that has stopped or is moving too little air
- A blocked or restricted vent path, often the result of a kitchen change rather than an appliance problem
- A cavity running hotter than commanded and pushing heat into the control area
🔧 One Safe Check You Can Try
Clear everything stored against the oven's vents and check whether the surround has been altered - a new cabinet panel, a filled gap, a trim kit. Then listen for the cooling fan during a cycle.
⚠ Why You Shouldn't Go Further Than That
- Control electronics that cook themselves fail expensively, and continuing to run long cycles while this is logged is how a fan repair becomes a board repair.
- The board and its thermistor sit in a line-voltage housing, so there is nothing to inspect there without isolating the oven.
- Fitting a replacement board without fixing the airflow simply gives the new board the same heat to sit in.
Opening a panel to inspect or repair something yourself doesn't automatically cancel your manufacturer's warranty — but it can risk accidental damage, and some manufacturers do have specific service conditions. Check your product's warranty terms, or ask us, before deciding.
