What 3D20 Means
The M Series control uses the mains frequency as a timing reference for the way it switches its loads. Wolf's M Series Troubleshooting Manual logs 3D20 at priority 2 when that frequency is not what it expects - typically a sign of a distorted or unstable supply rather than a clean 60Hz.
Common Causes of 3D20
- A supply from a generator or inverter whose waveform is not clean
- Severe electrical noise on the circuit distorting the zero crossings the board counts
- A measurement problem in the board's frequency detection circuit
🔧 One Safe Check You Can Try
Think about what else shares the circuit and whether anything has changed - a standby generator, an inverter, a solar system, a large motor load. Supplies that are not straight from the utility are the usual source of frequency complaints.
⚠ Why You Shouldn't Go Further Than That
- Diagnosing waveform problems needs instruments on a live supply, which is not home territory.
- The oven times its load switching from this reference, so ignoring the problem and running anyway asks it to switch heating circuits on a timebase it does not trust.
- Replacing the relay board when the supply is genuinely distorted gives the new board the same problem to report.
