What 1321 Means
Wolf's M Series Troubleshooting Manual defines 1321 as the upper broil element relay reading open when commanded closed, and 1322 as the lower. The broil element is not being fed, which shows up as a broil function that does nothing while the rest of the oven behaves.
Common Causes of 1321
- Broil relay contacts that no longer close under command
- An open broil element reading back as an open circuit at the relay
- A burnt terminal connection at the broil element, common on ovens with a long broiling history
🔧 One Safe Check You Can Try
Select broil with the cavity empty and watch through the door glass. If the element never glows at all, that confirms the sign; if it glows briefly then stops, say so, because that is a different pattern.
⚠ Why You Shouldn't Go Further Than That
- Broil terminals are at the top rear of a cavity that holds heat, so the sequence is breaker off, cavity cold, then access.
- A relay and an element produce the same reported problem, and only a measurement separates the two.
- The broil circuit runs at the oven's full heating voltage and current, which rules out casual live testing.
Opening a panel to inspect or repair something yourself doesn't automatically cancel your manufacturer's warranty — but it can risk accidental damage, and some manufacturers do have specific service conditions. Check your product's warranty terms, or ask us, before deciding.
