What 01 Means
On the oven side of a Wolf dual fuel range, Wolf's DF30 and DF36 Dual Fuel Range Technical & Service Manuals define code 01 exactly: the control drove the door lock motor and neither the lock nor the unlock switch reported back inside 60 seconds. The range knows it asked the latch to move and never got confirmation it arrived, so it stops rather than assume the door is secure.
Common Causes of 01
- A lock or unlock microswitch that no longer closes when the latch reaches its stop
- A motorised door lock assembly whose motor or gear train has seized mid-travel
- A broken or chafed conductor in the harness between the latch switches and the control
🔧 One Safe Check You Can Try
Let the oven cavity cool to room temperature before you touch the door, and if the range is otherwise misbehaving turn off the gas supply valve first. Then look at whether the latch bar has stalled part-way out of the frame.
⚠ Why You Shouldn't Go Further Than That
- On a dual fuel range the sequence is gas supply off, power off, cavity cold - and only then a look at the latch, because the gas cooktop and the oven share one cabinet.
- Prying a stalled latch bar bends the strike plate, which turns a switch replacement into a door and frame repair.
- The latch switches share a harness with the oven's heating interlocks, so probing them live is a shock hazard rather than a diagnostic step.
Opening a panel to inspect or repair something yourself doesn't automatically cancel your manufacturer's warranty — but it can risk accidental damage, and some manufacturers do have specific service conditions. Check your product's warranty terms, or ask us, before deciding.
