What RELAY CAL Means
A relay phase calibration failure - the relay board timing its switching against the mains waveform and not getting the result it expected. Wolf's Wall Ovens Technical & Service Manual is unusually cautious about this one: it tells technicians to replace the relay board only if the error shows up four consecutive times in diagnostic mode, which tells you a single occurrence is not considered proof of anything.
Common Causes of RELAY CAL
- Mains supply noise or an unstable waveform upsetting the relay timing check
- A relay on the board whose switching has become slow or inconsistent with age
- A relay board problem in the timing circuit itself, which is the answer once the problem repeats
🔧 One Safe Check You Can Try
Power-cycle at the breaker and keep a note of the date each time RELAY CAL appears. Because the manual's own threshold is four consecutive occurrences, a record of how often it comes back is genuinely useful evidence.
⚠ Why You Shouldn't Go Further Than That
- The manual's own four-in-a-row rule exists because a single calibration miss is often the supply rather than the board, and replacing hardware on one occurrence is how money gets wasted.
- Reading the diagnostic mode that produces that count needs the service procedure for the model, not the customer-facing controls.
- The relay board switches the oven's heating circuits, so it sits directly on line voltage and is not a part to probe at home.
Opening a panel to inspect or repair something yourself doesn't automatically cancel your manufacturer's warranty — but it can risk accidental damage, and some manufacturers do have specific service conditions. Check your product's warranty terms, or ask us, before deciding.
