What OVER TEMP Means
OVER TEMP is the L Series oven's temperature ceiling being hit. Wolf's Wall Ovens Technical & Service Manual puts the trip points at 630F when the door is unlocked and 930F when it is locked for self-clean; past either figure the control cuts the heat and posts the code. It is a protective shutdown, which means something upstream let the cavity climb past where the board thought it was.
Common Causes of OVER TEMP
- An RTD oven sensor reading low, so the control keeps calling for heat the cavity does not need
- A heating relay on the relay board stuck closed, feeding an element the control believes is off
- A self-clean cycle running with a door or gasket problem that changes how heat builds in the cavity
🔧 One Safe Check You Can Try
Switch the oven off at the breaker and leave the door shut until the cavity has cooled right down. Note whether this happened during self-clean or during ordinary baking, because the two trip points are very different numbers and the answer narrows the diagnosis.
⚠ Why You Shouldn't Go Further Than That
- Turn the power off at the breaker before anything else: a cavity that has just overshot 600F stays dangerously hot long after the display goes dark.
- If the cause is a welded relay contact, the element can stay live while the panel shows the oven off, so the breaker is the only reliable off switch here.
- Resetting and rerunning a cycle to see whether it repeats puts the cavity through the same overshoot again, and that is how liners and insulation get cooked.
Opening a panel to inspect or repair something yourself doesn't automatically cancel your manufacturer's warranty — but it can risk accidental damage, and some manufacturers do have specific service conditions. Check your product's warranty terms, or ask us, before deciding.
