What 1831 Means
The relay that drives the motorised door lock reading open when it was commanded closed. Wolf's M Series Troubleshooting Manual gives 1831 for the upper cavity and 1832 for the lower. The practical result is a latch that will not be driven - so the oven will refuse a self-clean cycle it cannot lock the door for.
Common Causes of 1831
- MDL relay contacts that no longer close
- A driver problem on the relay board's lock channel
- A break in the harness between the relay board and the door lock motor
🔧 One Safe Check You Can Try
Try starting a clean cycle and listen for the latch motor. Complete silence where you would normally hear the lock travel supports an open drive circuit rather than a jammed mechanism.
⚠ Why You Shouldn't Go Further Than That
- The lock harness runs through the control area alongside line-voltage wiring, so tracing it is a power-off job.
- A silent latch could equally be a dead motor, and the problem log is what separates the relay from the motor.
- Bypassing the lock to get a clean cycle to start defeats the interlock that keeps the door shut at clean temperatures.
Opening a panel to inspect or repair something yourself doesn't automatically cancel your manufacturer's warranty — but it can risk accidental damage, and some manufacturers do have specific service conditions. Check your product's warranty terms, or ask us, before deciding.
