What 1021 Means

The opposite of 0021. Wolf's M Series Troubleshooting Manual records 1021 when the upper cavity's bake element relay reads open while the control has commanded it closed, and 1022 for the lower cavity. The board asked for bake heat and the feedback says the circuit never made - so the practical sign is an oven that will not come up to temperature.

Common Causes of 1021

  • Relay contacts that no longer close reliably after years of switching
  • An open bake element making the relay's feedback look open even though the contact is fine
  • A connection in the bake circuit that has burned out at a terminal

🔧 One Safe Check You Can Try

Check whether the oven heats at all on other functions. If broil works and bake does not, that is a useful, free observation that narrows the problem to the bake circuit rather than the whole board.

⚠ Why You Shouldn't Go Further Than That

  • The relay and the element are two different parts producing one sign, and telling them apart means measuring rather than assuming.
  • Bake element terminals sit at the back of the cavity at full heating voltage, so any check happens with the supply isolated.
  • Buying an element for what turns out to be a relay - or the reverse - is the most common way this repair gets paid for twice.

Opening a panel to inspect or repair something yourself doesn't automatically cancel your manufacturer's warranty — but it can risk accidental damage, and some manufacturers do have specific service conditions. Check your product's warranty terms, or ask us, before deciding.

It matches well. If the bake circuit is not making, the cavity climbs on whatever other heat is available and stalls short of the set point.

Not reliably. Both look identical from the front panel, which is why the diagnosis is worth more than a guess at the parts counter.
