What 0021 Means
On the M Series built-in oven, Wolf's M Series Troubleshooting Manual defines 0021 as the bake element relay reading shorted in the upper cavity, and 0022 as the same problem in the lower cavity. Shorted here means the relay's contacts are being sensed as closed when the control commanded them open - the board asked for the bake element off and the feedback says it is still connected.
Common Causes of 0021
- Relay contacts welded shut after years of switching a high-current element
- A relay board feedback circuit misreading the relay's actual state
- A wiring problem in the bake circuit that keeps the feedback line alive
🔧 One Safe Check You Can Try
Switch the oven off at the breaker rather than at the control panel, then leave it off. If a relay really is welded closed, the panel showing the oven off tells you nothing about whether the element is still fed.
⚠ Why You Shouldn't Go Further Than That
- A stuck bake relay is the scenario where an oven can keep heating with every indicator dark, so the safety step - power off at the breaker - comes before any inspection.
- The relay lives on the board that switches the oven's heating circuits, which is line-voltage work rather than a DIY check.
- Confirming a welded contact means measuring the relay in and out of circuit, and a guess here is a board you may not have needed.
Opening a panel to inspect or repair something yourself doesn't automatically cancel your manufacturer's warranty — but it can risk accidental damage, and some manufacturers do have specific service conditions. Check your product's warranty terms, or ask us, before deciding.
