What SE Means
SE is a widely used appliance-industry convention meaning Stuck (or Shorted) key/keypad Error — the control board is detecting that a button on the keypad appears to be continuously pressed, even when nothing is actually being touched.
Common Causes of SE
- Food residue, grease, or moisture bridging contacts under the keypad
- A physically stuck button on a mechanical keypad
- A failed keypad membrane or control board reading it
🔧 One Safe Check You Can Try
Unplug the microwave, then gently wipe the keypad/touch panel to clear any moisture, grease, or food residue that could be causing a false "pressed" reading. Plug back in and see if SE clears.
⚠ Why You Shouldn't Go Further Than That
- Cleaning the keypad should always be done unplugged — working on it live risks both a shock and a false button press mid-cleaning.
- If cleaning doesn't clear SE, the keypad membrane itself likely needs replacing, which means partial disassembly of the control panel.
- Continuing to use a microwave with a stuck-key problem can result in the unit running when you don't expect it to.
