What 5021 Means
A self-clean cycle runs deliberately hot, but there is still a ceiling. Wolf's M Series Troubleshooting Manual logs 5021 when the upper cavity exceeds it during clean and 5022 when the lower does, both at priority 2. The control has cut the cycle short because the cavity went past the limit it allows even for cleaning.
Common Causes of 5021
- An RTD cavity sensor reading low, so the control keeps calling for heat
- A heating relay stuck closed, feeding an element the control believes it has switched off
- A cooling or airflow problem changing how heat builds and is carried away during the cycle
🔧 One Safe Check You Can Try
Switch the oven off at the breaker and keep the door closed until the cavity has cooled right down. Do not start another clean cycle to see whether it repeats.
⚠ Why You Shouldn't Go Further Than That
- Breaker off first: after a clean cycle overshoot the cavity, the door glass and the surround all stay dangerously hot long after the display goes quiet.
- If a relay has welded closed, the panel showing the oven off is not evidence that anything has actually stopped heating.
- Re-running the clean cycle repeats the overshoot, and it is the second run that tends to take the electronics and the cavity insulation with it.
Opening a panel to inspect or repair something yourself doesn't automatically cancel your manufacturer's warranty — but it can risk accidental damage, and some manufacturers do have specific service conditions. Check your product's warranty terms, or ask us, before deciding.
