What 4031 Means
The M Series control confirms each load is actually drawing current when it switches it on. Wolf's M Series Troubleshooting Manual logs 4031 when the upper cavity's bake element is commanded on and no current is detected, and 4032 for the lower cavity. The oven is reporting that the element is simply not there electrically.
Common Causes of 4031
- A bake element that has burned out, which is a normal end-of-life failure
- A failed terminal connection where the element joins the harness
- A relay not delivering power to the element, so the current sensing sees nothing
🔧 One Safe Check You Can Try
Check whether other heating functions work - broil, convection - since an element that has failed alone leaves the rest of the oven behaving normally. That contrast is what distinguishes one dead element from a bank problem.
⚠ Why You Shouldn't Go Further Than That
- Element terminals sit at the back of the cavity at full heating voltage and retain heat, so the order is breaker off, cavity cold, then access.
- A not-detected reading covers both a dead element and a relay that never closed, and only measurement separates them.
- Elements are model-specific on built-in Wolf ovens, and a close-enough part usually fits badly and heats worse.
