What 3031 Means

This is the plug-in meat probe, not the cavity sensor. Wolf's M Series Troubleshooting Manual lists 3031 as a shorted temperature probe on the upper cavity and 3032 on the lower, both at priority 3 - the lowest band. The probe is reading as a short circuit, so the control refuses to cook to an internal temperature it cannot measure.

Common Causes of 3031

  • A probe lead shorted where it flexes at the plug, which is where these wear out
  • Water in the cavity socket after cleaning
  • A probe cable that has been trapped in the door and crushed

🔧 One Safe Check You Can Try

Pull the probe out of its socket and see whether the code clears. If it does, the problem travels with the probe and you can carry on cooking by time and temperature until a replacement arrives.

⚠ Why You Shouldn't Go Further Than That

  • The probe unplugs, so there is nothing to dismantle for that half - but the socket behind the cavity wall needs the oven opened up, which is a different proposition.
  • If a known-good probe still produces the code, the problem is in the socket circuit, and buying probes is a slow way to discover that.
  • A damaged probe can read plausibly wrong rather than obviously wrong, which matters when you are relying on it for a safe internal temperature.

Opening a panel to inspect or repair something yourself doesn't automatically cancel your manufacturer's warranty — but it can risk accidental damage, and some manufacturers do have specific service conditions. Check your product's warranty terms, or ask us, before deciding.

3031 FAQ

Yes. Time and temperature cooking is unaffected; you just lose probe-based cooking until it is sorted.

That points to the cavity socket or its wiring rather than the probe - worth mentioning up front so the technician brings what they need.
