What 2820 Means

A problem in the relay board's own motorised door lock drive circuit, rather than in the latch or its switches. Wolf's M Series Troubleshooting Manual lists 2820 at priority 2. The board has found a problem in the part of itself that operates the door lock.

Common Causes of 2820

  • A failure in the MDL drive circuit on the relay board
  • A part in the lock drive stage damaged by a stalled latch motor
  • A connection problem where the lock harness lands on the relay board

🔧 One Safe Check You Can Try

Let the cavity cool, then note the latch's position and whether it moves at all when the oven powers up. Do not pull on a door whose latch state is uncertain.

⚠ Why You Shouldn't Go Further Than That

  • Cool first, then investigate - lock problems gather around self-clean, and a hot cavity behind a stuck door is the wrong place to be improvising.
  • The drive circuit is on the relay board in a line-voltage housing, so nothing here is reachable from the cavity.
  • Replacing the latch assembly when the problem is in the board's drive circuit leaves you with a new latch and the same code.

Opening a panel to inspect or repair something yourself doesn't automatically cancel your manufacturer's warranty — but it can risk accidental damage, and some manufacturers do have specific service conditions. Check your product's warranty terms, or ask us, before deciding.

FAQ

2820 FAQ

Not according to this code. Wolf's M Series Troubleshooting Manual separates problems in the latch and its switches from problems in the board circuit that drives them, and 2820 is the latter.

If it is already unlocked and the cavity is cold, yes. If it is latched, leave it and let a technician release it rather than forcing the strike.
