What 0B31 Means
The cooling fan is the one that keeps the control electronics and the surrounding cabinetry out of trouble. Wolf's M Series Troubleshooting Manual lists 0B31 as its triac reading shorted in the upper cavity and 0B32 in the lower - the switch is conducting when the board wants it off, so the fan keeps running indefinitely.
Common Causes of 0B31
- A cooling fan triac that has failed in the conducting state
- A fan motor drawing abnormally and stressing the triac
- A relay board problem on the cooling fan channel
🔧 One Safe Check You Can Try
Note how long the fan runs after the oven is switched off. A normal run-on is minutes; a fan still going hours later, or from the moment power is restored with nothing cooking, is the sign this code describes.
⚠ Why You Shouldn't Go Further Than That
- A cooling fan that cannot be switched off runs its bearings continuously, and reaching the board to stop it means opening a line-voltage housing.
- Cutting power at the breaker stops the noise but also removes the cooling the oven relies on, so it is a holding measure rather than a fix.
- Replacing the fan motor leaves a failed triac still conducting, and the new motor will run just as continuously.
