What PROBE SHORTED Means
This one is about the meat probe, not the cavity sensor. Wolf's Wall Ovens Technical & Service Manual lists PROBE SHORTED as a temperature probe failure, with the probe itself as the part to replace. It is the plug-in thermometer you push into a roast and socket into the cavity wall, so the code affects probe cooking rather than the oven's ability to bake.
Common Causes of PROBE SHORTED
- A probe lead that has shorted where it flexes near the plug, which is where these fail first
- Moisture in the cavity socket after cleaning
- A probe cable that has been crushed by the oven door at some point
🔧 One Safe Check You Can Try
Unplug the probe from its socket and see whether the code clears. If the oven is happy without it, you have narrowed the problem to the probe or its lead and can keep cooking on time and temperature in the meantime.
⚠ Why You Shouldn't Go Further Than That
- The probe is a plug-in accessory, so there is genuinely nothing to dismantle - but the socket behind the cavity wall is a different matter and does need the oven opened up.
- If unplugging the probe does not clear the code, the problem is in the socket circuit, and guessing between the two by buying probes is the expensive way round.
- A probe with a damaged lead can read plausibly wrong rather than obviously wrong, which is a food-safety problem when you are cooking to an internal temperature.
Opening a panel to inspect or repair something yourself doesn't automatically cancel your manufacturer's warranty — but it can risk accidental damage, and some manufacturers do have specific service conditions. Check your product's warranty terms, or ask us, before deciding.
