What RTD SHORTED Means
The mirror image of RTD OPEN. Wolf's Wall Ovens Technical & Service Manual defines RTD SHORTED as a shorted circuit on the RTD oven sensor: instead of the resistance the control expects, it sees almost none, which would translate to an impossible temperature. The board rejects the reading and posts the code rather than heating blind.
Common Causes of RTD SHORTED
- An RTD sensor that has shorted internally after long service
- Moisture or cleaning fluid tracking across the sensor terminals at the back of the cavity
- A harness that has chafed through its insulation and is shorting against the oven frame
🔧 One Safe Check You Can Try
Note whether the display was showing a wildly wrong temperature before the code landed - that detail is worth repeating to whoever services it. Then leave the oven off until the sensor has been checked.
⚠ Why You Shouldn't Go Further Than That
- A shorted sensor and a shorted harness read the same at the board, and telling them apart means ohming at both ends with the oven isolated.
- The rear panel has to come off to reach the connector, which is not a sensible place to be with a built-in oven still energised.
- Fitting a sensor without confirming which end shorted leaves the real problem in place and the new part reading just as wrong.
Opening a panel to inspect or repair something yourself doesn't automatically cancel your manufacturer's warranty — but it can risk accidental damage, and some manufacturers do have specific service conditions. Check your product's warranty terms, or ask us, before deciding.
