When a burner keeps clicking but the flame never catches, the igniter is nearly always to blame — years of sparking have worn it down, or debris sitting in the burner port is fouling it right where the spark needs to cross. Food residue, grease, and moisture from cooking all build up in that gap over time, and it doesn’t take much to interrupt a spark that’s only crossing a few millimeters.
Before calling it in, a careful visual check of the burner cap and port for visible debris is worth doing (with the range off and cooled), but if cleaning the visible area doesn’t resolve it, the igniter or its spark module is the more likely cause — and that’s a targeted, generally affordable repair rather than anything involving the range’s main control system.
